For my most successful yet challenging piece, I decided to use my prismacolor opacity final. Overall, I found the opacity part of my project, the bag, the hardest. It was hard to make it seem as though the chips were inside of the bag and I had to make it look presentable and look like chips. In the outcome, I think I was pretty successful. I think this piece was creative because no one else in my class did this and I used a picture that I took on my own as my reference. I grabbed things around my house to create a "snack" style of drawing. I challenged myself by doing the bag of chips instead of a bag of grapes, as the chips were harder to get the curves down than the grapes would've been. I was originally going to do a wrapped candy apple, but as I was practicing I realized it was too much of a challenge and I would've gotten frustrated and given up

As you can easily tell, I've improved in my shading for this semester. When I first started, my version of shading was taking a blending stump and scribbling all over my paper, trying to get any type of shade in with that or my fingers. You could see the lines all over my paper, which made a very cartoon looking piece. This class taught me exactly where and how to shade and highlight. You can see the difference from the way I smeared the dog I drew compared to how I blended the practice eye. I've been able to get more textures throughout my drawings by shading right and using the correct materials. I'm also able to be more creative with my drawings using a reference. I can see the shapes in drawings easier than I could before and overall I think I improved in my drawings more than I thought I would.

My two most beneficial mini projects were the colored pencil vegetable and the pastel candy. The pepper was my first time really trying colored pencils and I was able to work with the shading and layering a lot in order to get the different colors right compared to my picture. This benefited me when I went to do all of my prismacolor projects because I learned more shading than before and I was able to figure out more techniques. The pastel candy was beneficial because it showed me how to use pastels. When I started on the apples, my apple looked really bad and by the time I worked on the candy I was able to ge the shading and pressure right.

The piece I felt the least successful on was my look at that view project. I got frustrated with all of the brick in the background and rushed through it, which ended up making it really sloppy. I don't like the way it turned out and I feel like I should've chosen something different to do for my project. I also don't like the way I did the shading, especially on the hand. It's definitely not one of my favorite projects and I would completely change it if I could do it again.
