In this drawing, we had to draw a shoe that was placed on the table from the angle we were looking at it. I was able to do it and you can tell it's a shoe but it looks pretty squished since I got the width proportion wrong. I am also not a fan of the dots on the top of the show because it looks like a connect the dots game. Overall, I like how this turned out and I like the laces and top part of the shoe.

In this contour drawing, we had to draw a backpack that was sitting one the table, in this case we used my backpack. We had to draw everything from the angle we could see it including the lines on the backpack. For me, I thought the zipper and clips were the hardest part to get the shapes down and proportion was hard at times. The worst part about this was the cupholder on the right hand side that was super small compared to what it actually looked like. Overall I was pleased with how it turned out, especially the middle part and the strings that were on that. I also like the water bottle and how I was able to outline the stickers on the water bottle. I overall thought this was a solid projet and like to do contouring like this..

Did you use a wide range of values? (A range from white to black with at least 9 values). Explain how is this evident?
I tried to make sure there was no blank paper in my bag and fabric drawing. I overall think I did use a range of values since you can mostly see the shadows in both of the shading drawings. Explain how your knowledge and creating practice studies with value contributed to your piece. Practicing the sphere and value chart with all of the different shades really helped me to get used to the way I hold the pencil without seeing lines in the drawing from scribbling. It also helped me practice using the kneaded eraser to overall be able to get the shading correct for each of my drawings. Describe the blending and transitions in your fabric (discuss your use of pressure with pencil/colored pencil/charcoal pencil and other techniques to achieve this). I was able to blend by using more and less pressure on my paper to make it look very even, going in circles while using the pencils also helps make the transitions smooth enough for what I needed. Explain how your interpretation of texture is essential in capturing the look of the object. Being able to see the texture of the bag compared to the fabric was huge, the fabric needed much smoother lines while the bag needs sharper lines and shapes to make it look more like paper than like fabric. If you could recreate your pieces what would you do differently to enhance the final outcome? I would probably not get so frustrated with the fabric and try to make my lines smoother and come out more like fabric. I also got my proportions wrong as well which made it hard for me to keep with the drawing. |
Describe the craftsmanship of your drawing. (Is it clear, clean edges, blended well, smudges, defined space, etc.)
My drawing has a lot of shading in it with some very sharp edges, causing me to work on keeping them all clean and sharp. I also worked on blending each shade into the others to keep it smooth, especially on things like fabric. Are your values and shadows realistic? How many values did you include? How and why are values important? |
In this project, we had to draw the fruit or vegetable we picked with the prismacolors. I chose a red pepper(pictured on the left) since I thought it would be fun to do the stem and try to draw the shading and highlights of the pepper. The right is my drawing. I overall think it came out pretty well, I'm not a huge fan of the shadow since it went out a little too much but overall I think it looks pretty good.

Describe how you created an interesting point of view? Was it successful? Why or why not?
In my point of view, I did a guy with his head down holding a glass at a bar. The hand holding the glass was closer than his body since his arm was reaching out. I think overall it was successful since the glass is bigger than the rest of the objects and it shows perspective pretty well. Why is it important to understand perspective and how to draw it? It is important because there are so many different perspectives in art that makes drawing difficult. It takes practice in order to make your artwork stand out and be successful. How were the colored pencil exercises important in the success of your piece? I barely knew how to use prismacolor before this project so the practice with blending and shading using different colors helped a lot. I was able to figure out how hard I should press down and how much to blend on the paper before it gets waxy. Describe the craftsmanship of your colored pencil. What techniques were used? (How well the project is technically crafted). I used a lot of blending throughout in order to get the wood and brick of my picture. I also used the white for highlights on my glass and bottle. I used different shades of a color, such as on the shirt, in order to keep my piece flowing and blended well. |
Explain the process you went through to develop your drawing.
I first had to plan out what I wanted to do for my self portrait. Originally, I was going to do more of an abstract pixelated type of drawing but I ended up getting frustrated and decided i'm stronger with black and white. I started by doing a practice drawing and I did my facial features. Then, I worked on my final, starting with the eyes. I did the hair and shirt last. Explain how you found the different values in the portrait? I found lots of highlights in my hair which caused me to shade differently throughout my hair. I also had really prominent cheekbones so I had to shade there as well. My entire portrait had different values throughout it. Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your portrait? How? I believe I did, My eyes and dark parts of my hair were some of the darkest values while my teeth and scarf were some of the lightest. Describe your craftsmanship. Is the artwork executed and crafted neatly? Overall, I tried to execute my drawing neatly, but some of the shading looks a little messy and the proportions were hard to keep correct. How were you able to capture your look? I tried to do a picture of me smiling, and I took on the challenge of trying to draw my teeth, which was hard but overall turned out okay. |
